Many persons living outside the United States (US) find it increasingly difficult to understand the US, particularly in its evolution in recent years. Of course it is impossible to fully understand such an enormous, diversified and complex country. This course aims to give students information, tools and a perspective to better understand the US, with particular emphasis on historical and current views of political and social processes operating there and their impact on political developments.

  • As we explore the subjects of the course, we will identify a number of underlying principles that govern almost every aspect of life in America, contributing to our understanding of the singular experience of this country called the United States of America.

  • Graduate and final-year students of Law, International Relations, Political Science and related degrees.
